Net gridview rowupdating not firing

The problem is, I’d very much like to do so, if ASP. But I can’t set a Data Source property or anything on the Sql Data Source!!! I probably have to read the cells on the Grid View of the selected row, find the controls, get the values from those and insert those into my Data Set.

Net way I had the right markup: I had originally placed the code under the Row Updated event, but after many, many, many repeated attempts of trying to get it to work I started looking for obtuse ways to accomplish the same thing.
So, the containing object in this case is Data Control Field Cell but it is a difference one on every click of the user.
